Labelling
Our state-of-the-art labelling machine can apply labels with absolute precision and control. We can apply front and back labels from the same or separate rolls, as well as single label bottle wraps.
We can apply labels at the time of bottling or as a separate service for existing cleanskin stock.
We use and recommend Size Me Up to ensure that your label and bottle combination is apropriate.
Please work closely with your label producer to ensure these label specifications are met.
Thinkg to keep in mind when ordering Labels.
-
All labels should be ordered on rolls with left-hand leading edge. (Despatch position 1)
- Always order more labels than required to allow for machine setup and quality control.
-
Gaps between labels should not exceed 5mm.
-
Roll cores should be the full height of the label roll.
-
Core diameter should be 75mm.
-
Label rolls should not exceed 300mm in diameter.
-
We request strong backing papers and high-quality adhesives.
-
Please note: The quality of your label stock has a direct impact on your finished product.

Issues that can negatively impact your labels may include:
- Damaged backing papers – Poor handling or storage can result in nicks and tears in the backing paper, resulting in considerable time and label loss.
- Excessively heavy embossing – Labels producers should ensure that label cutting or embossing does not mark and weaken the backing paper.
- Poor quality or light weight backing paper can cause frequent breaks resulting in considerable time and label loss.
- Insufficient backing paper above and below the label may cause damage to your labels.
- Labels supplied on small rolls – Rolls should be around 280mm – 300mm in diameter (if volumes permit). Small rolls mean frequent stops for roll changing and excessive label wastage.
- Wrong direction of wind necessitating re-rolling of all label rolls (to be completed by the winery prior to labelling)
Samples of unusual, multi-part, irregular shapes or large labels should be sent to us well in advance.
